Hong Kong Picture – CHENG Ka-yan Paper-Cutting Collage Exhibition

Ka-yan’s way of working appears not having any deliberate planning. Each collage is made up with vocabularies of local colors and is created skillfully without a draft at the beginning. Every time, she just sits down, picks up her pen, scissors and glue, then a work is done. As a spectator, according to the lexical content, we roughly divide these vocabularies into the following categories: TV dramas, song titles, names of artists, names of places, greeting phrases, brand names, and names of restaurants and etc. A statistical distribution graph is presented.

For this exhibition, artist, her mother and social worker Ms. JIANG were interviewed so that the three perspectives being the artist herself, her family and the Rehabilitation Complex can be looked at. Through this exhibition, the artist and the viewers can re-view these familiar vocabularies together.

Workshop
We cordially invite you to have a stroll with Ka-yan along the streets we have known so long; by means of paper cutting to record the landscape and outlook of our birth place, as well as the vocabularies we have been using and to share with us your thinking about Hong Kong.
