The Whimsical Amusement Park

The characters inhabiting these paintings sparkle with a childlike wonder. This playful aesthetic not only reflects Agnes’s deep affinity for cartoons and anime, but also of her habit of inviting the people around her into this vibrant painted world. Through an energetic vocabulary of splashing, dripping, stippling, expressive brushwork, and multi-layered collage, she constructs a brilliantly multicoloured domain. When caught up in the joy of creating, she allows the paint to completely submerge the figures on the artworks. Once the pigment dries, she coaxes the characters back, only to shower them with new layers of pigment in a different manner. This repetitive, spirited dialogue between form and colour accumulates a striking depth, transforming each artwork into a fantastical playground of imagination.
