YUNG Cheuk-kwok
Cheuk Kwok is a perfectionist. He will tear up a painting and toss it into the bin if he is a little dissatisfied with it. Being persistent, he has his own way of doing things. Unlike the traditional way of writing Chinese calligraphy, he writes from left to right, the same direction as he reads a newspaper. Cheuk Kwok has never copied from a copybook since he started learning calligraphy. Rather, he created his own font – ‘Yung Style’ (named after his family name by his instructor). The font is slim and finished with one stroke. It is simple and neat, unique and individualistic. He is fond of a collection of Chinese New Year greetings and practices with his font incessantly. The unique font, interesting composition and peculiar arrangement establish his style of calligraphy.
