CHAN Cheong-yip
Mature Abstractionist
“Behind the mature and steady image, dots, lines, planes and colors are utilized to express one’s abstract artistic world.”
Cheong-yip seems all along only doing creation on symbols of words. Firstly, he uses an outliner pen of monochrome to do drafts of lines on dozens of drawing paper. Then, he uses a marker to paint the symbols of words. These lines overlap each other covering the whole colour block and the structure is compact. The matching of colours and arrangement of the colour blocks are different. It seems that he paints effortlessly in a forthright way.
Gradually, it was found that Cheong-yip only likes to draw patterns on paper. At first, it was thought that it would be very shocking to see a large painting with his dense patterns created under his physical strength. In the end, the big drawing paper "diluted" the lines and colour blocks. If we want to enjoy the beauty of his creation: the precise combination of lines and colour blocks, we need to look for his creation which is painted on a paper as tiny as a finger.
