When you order in traditional Hong Kong style café or known as a “Cha Chaan Teng”, have you heard about “fly the sand, walk the milk”? While “sand” refers to sugar, the phrase refers to coffee without sugar and milk.
Instead of offering water to customers, cha chaan teng provide tea. What is “tea walk” then? That is tea with condensed milk and without sugar.
Inspired by Cheng’s letter cutting artwork, she introduced many popular foods and drinks. Say it like a local next time, when you make your order.
