Japan Art Tour Flashback 1: Performance at Takamiya Station
21 November 2023
We went to the Kansai region of Japan for an art exchange with the artists before. The first highlight of our trip was to participate in a performance at Takamiya Station in Shiga Prefecture! We were invited by Mr. Makoto Nomura, a Japanese community musician, to participate in the “Gacha-Con Music Festival Vol.3”*.
The artists created special artworks for this performance. They painted the drum culture of Hikone City, and Ka-yan also created paper-cut artworks based on the train station names of the Ohmi Railway.
During the show, the artists held fabrics printed with their artworks, some wore shirts which were designed by themselves, and others held up the paper-cut artworks, presenting their works to the Japanese audience in the form of “mobile gallery”. The performance was very successful. There was even a heavy thunderstorm in the middle of the performance, but this did not stop the artists from showcasing their works. Many Japanese audience appreciated our creations! After the performance, some of the artworks were invited to be exhibited at the train station, allowing more Japanese visitors to get to know i-dArtists’ creations.
* “Gacha-Con Music Festival” is a music event that connects the community and art, set along the Ohmi Railway (Gacha-Con) line. This year's theme is “Taiko”. The artists researched regional taiko drums and created a new performance using dance, visual art, violin, and percussion.
