WONG Yuk-kuen
Self-Portrait Maniac
“Strong emotions showing in every self-portrait demonstrate surging passion and inspire everyone.”
Fascinated with painting self-portraits over the years, Yuk-kuen repeated painting the same portrait again and again. However, each of them is different. For each of the painting has its own specified strength applied on, colours, composition and words. Despite his weak verbal expression, he can show you all his likes and dislike easily with the paintbrush. The paintings are of personal style showing his subjectivity. The power shown during creation reflects his strong passion for art and the paintings are infectious.
He is also a performance artist. Being a lover of characters of the Cantonese opera, he will perform a series of Cantonese opera postures after having completed a satisfactory work. Sometimes, he seems to show his joy by imitating the vocal music of the opera. Or he plays Kung Fu to complete his entire creative performance. In any case, the power of his creativity demonstrates his surging passion for art and it is also inspiring his audience.
